TITLE : Customizing Colors in Paradox SE
The Custom Configuration Program (CCP) allows you to customize
Paradox for a variety of features. For the purpose of this
document we will describe how to access the color customizing
capabilities of the CCP. After starting Paradox choose Scripts |
Play and type "custom" and press <Enter>.
A splash screen appears and then the prompt:
"Are you using a B&W monitor right now? (Y for yes, N for
no).
Type the appropriate response and press <Enter>. Next, select
Video | Colors | Modify. The menu: "Workspace, Top2Lines&Menu,
CurrentSelection, and Annotation" appears. "Workspace" will be
highlighted. There are eleven color selection screens available:
1) The Paradox Main Menu: Workspace,
Top2Lines&Menu,CurrentSelection, and Annotation.
2) A Menu Prompt: Workspace, Top2Lines&Menu, and ModeSign.
3) A Prompting List: Workspace, Top2Lines&Menu,
CurrentSelection, ModeSign, and Messages.
4) Query Forms: Workspace, Top2Lines&Menu, ModeSign,
CurrentImage, and NoncurrentImage.
5) Tables in CoEdit Mode: Workspace, Top2Lines&Menu,
ModeSign, CurrentImage, and NoncurrentImage.
6) The Report Generator: Workspace, Top2Lines&Menu,
ModeSign, FieldValues, VerticalRuler, and BandLines.
7) The Form Generator: Workspace, Top2Lines&Menu, ModeSign,
SelectedArea, ReverseVideo, and HighIntensity.
8) A Help Screen: Top2Lines&Menu, CurrentSelection,
Annotation, Border/Help, and NormalText/Help.
9) The Help Index: Workspace, Border/Help, Index,
Lines/Index, and Selection/Index.

10) The PAL Debugger: Workspace, Top2Lines&Menu,
CurrentSelection, Annotation, Messages, and DebugState.
11) Summary of Paradox Screens: This screen provides the
user with a summary of all choices made previously.
These screens allow for the modification of Paradox's color. The
following example demonstrates how to modify colors.
Highlight "Workspace" with the horizontal arrow keys and press
<Enter> to begin changing colors. The color palette appears at
the upper right of the screen. Use the arrow keys to scroll
through the color palette. The vertical arrows control the
background colors, and the horizontal arrows control the
foreground colors.
Move to the red background with the vertical arrow key. Press
<Enter> to select that color. Repeat the process with
"Top2Lines&Menu". Choose a light grey background with a yellow
foreground. Notice how at the top of the color palette the
message; "Yellow on Light-Grey" appears; this message changes as
the palette is scrolled by the arrows. Press <Enter> to choose
the yellow on light-grey setting.
Highlight "Annotation" with the horizontal arrow keys and press
<Enter> to begin changing colors. Using the arrow keys choose
light-red on green. This completes the color selection for the
workspace and the top two lines of Paradox.
How Keys Function
The <Page Up> and <Page Down> keys are used to move between the
eleven screens. At any time during the selection process on
line help is available by pressing <F1>. Use <Ctrl-Home> to move
to the first color selection screen and <Ctrl-End> to move to the
last color selection screen.

How to Save or Cancel Your Changes
When you are finished press <F10>. Select "Save" to save your
changes. A prompt appears asking for a name for the new color
configuration; type "test" and press <Enter>. A prompt appears
asking for a brief description; type "color test"; press <Enter>.
To cancel your changes, select "Cancel".
The colors menu appears choose Return | Return | Do_It!
| Do_It!. A menu with the choices HardDisk or Network appears.
Choose HardDisk. These steps exit the CCP and return to DOS.
Re-enter Paradox and play the CUSTOM script. Choose Video |
Colors | ExistingSettings | Select. "Test" should be displayed
with a asterisk next to it, indicating it is the color setting.
Exit the CCP and start Paradox; the new color scheme should be
immediately apparent. To use another color setting, enter the
CCP and select Video | Colors | ExistingSettings | Select; choose
a color setting and exit CCP. Notice the change in the color
settings after you start Paradox.
Changing Graph Colors
The CCP allows you to graph colors: both displayed and printed.
From the main Custom menu, choose Graphs | GraphSetttings |
Overall | Colors | Screen. The screen displays the title
"Customize Graph Colors" on the top left of the screen and a
color palette with colors for background and graph elements.
The cursor blinks on the first choice for graph elements press
"C" this will select green from the "Background Choices" column
of the color palette. Notice how the color to the right of the
entry changes to green. Press <Enter> and the cursor moves to
the "Frame" selection. Press "E" and <Enter>. The "Grid"
selection is displayed press "A". Notice how the color to the
right of the grid displays the same color as the background (in
this case green). Press <Enter> and select "G" for the "First
Title Line".
Press <Enter> and choose a color for the "Second Title Line".
Repeat the color selection process for the rest of the choices on
the screen. The "Series" portion of the screen color the

elements of the graph such as legends, labels, markers, and
patterns. Some features to take note of are:
1) Colors B through H are your only choices for Background
colors.
2) All colors are available for every other graph element.
3) Selecting A will select the same color for the graph
element as the background color.
When completed press <F10> Return | Return | Do_It! | Do_It! and
place the PARADOX.CFG file in the appropriate directory. To
familiarize yourself with what color setting effects which
feature of the graph, return to the color menu for graphs, change
only one element and see which part of the graph is affected.
Experimenting with the color settings will help expand your
knowledge of graphs and the color settings in the CCP.
